Artist’s Statement: I enjoy expressing an appreciation of my Native American heritage and my love of my hometown in New Mexico.
I have been an artist all my life and have been working with gourds for the past 10 years. I enjoy this medium because I can carve, burn, paint, and incorporate inlays with this natural material. Each gourd grows so differently that, combined with an idea or story I would like to tell, my interest is held and I am challenged to use my tools and talents in new ways on each piece.
I have won many ribbons at local art festivals and I belong to the Florida Gourd Society. Each of my pieces tells a special story about – and is a fond expression of – that part of my life I spent growing up in New Mexico.
