Wool fiber paper vessels by Claire Epperly (copyright Claire Epperly)
Artist’s Statement: These pieces are part of my series Figure/Vessel, which explores the metaphor of the human body as a vessel or container. These hollow, abstracted female figures are made from fiber paper which I make from wool roving (un-spun fibers) and liquid acrylic medium, molded around a clay form I sculpted.
Medium: I make mixed media sculpture because I enjoy the challenge of taking any material I find and bringing it to life as a sculpture. I especially enjoy working with fiber because of the colors and textures.
Artistic Resume:
- Full time faculty member of the Institute of Art and Design at Robert Morris College
- MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
- Most recent solo exhibit was Metamorphosis; an installation of mixed media sculptures at Robert Morris College Gallery, July-August, 2004, Chicago
- My mixed media sculptures have shown nationally in venues such as the Chicago Cultural Center, the Noyes Cultural Center, Woman Made Gallery, Robert Morris College Gallery, and The Tubac Center of the Arts in Arizona.

Claire,
What beautiful work. You are an inspiration…
cj
How delicate, light, refined and mature!
Has an ancient feel to it too. Primal. Was that intentional?
So “fitting”! Beautiful I am in awe!
