Artist’s Statement: When I drive into the local green waste landfill in an empty pickup truck and leave with a load of what everyone else is dumping, I get some funny looks. But some of the most beautiful wood ends up buried in dumps or burned as firewood. I enjoy finding that wood and unveiling the beauty that is in it. The wood, combined with a pleasing form, can crate some beautiful works of art.
I am an amateur artist who started woodturning in 2003. At the beginning it was whim, then a hobby, until it finally became somewhat of an obsession. Although I’ve spent a lot of time pursuing turned wood as art, I still consider myself in the “don’t quit your day job” category.
Artistic Medium: Wood, in any and all varieties. With the exception of a few pieces of exotic wood for specialty items, most of my wood is rescued from the local landfill. I do my turning on a 1953 Oliver lathe.
