JoAnn Kelly Catsos is a “2008 Art in the Round Contest” participant.
Artist’s Statement: I am a black ash splint basketmaker and instructor. I teach nationally for craft schools and for fiber/basketry organizations such as Arrowmont, John C. Campbell, National Basketry Orgaization and the Handweavers Guild of America.
I weave with black ash splint that my husband, Steve, and I prepare from logs harvested near our home in southwestern Massachusetts. I love the precision and intricate patterns that are possible with these satin ribbons of wood. Making baskets of black ash satisfies some of my most basic needs – working with wood keeps me in touch with nature, while creating the basket satisfies my artistic need to express myself.
Artistic Resume: I have won numerous awards during the past 23 years and my baskets are in many private and public collections. My work has been published in:
-
Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot
-
Crafts Report
-

-
