Lawrence Favorite is a “2008 Art in the Round Contest” participant.
Artist’s Statement: I derive great satisfaction as an artist from the sheer joy of doing – of being at one with the wood and releasing the beauty that is within. I have a tremendous sense of inner peace about my life and my work, and hope that those who touch the pieces of art I have created can feel this in the work itself.
My work requires the use of tools and techniques that I have perfected over several decades. I invest many hours of painstaking work into each piece and have been told, over the years, that individuals who touch and hold a piece of my work in their hands can actually feel the quiet energy and patience that went into making it.
I have been an artist for 33 years. Before that time I was a mechanical engineer.
Medium: I work in Ironwood from the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and combine the wood with silver, turquoise, and other gemstones to create functional art – bowls, boxes, and vases. I enjoy using my engineering skills to adapt tools for working with these materials. My art requires both precision and patience, and I enjoy both of these aspects of my work.
Artistic Resume:
- I have participated in art shows on a national level since 1980 and have won numerous “Best in Show” awards.
- I also have been featured in two national magazines.
- I currently have work in a number of fine art and fine craft galleries in the United States and France.
- I hold leadership positions in several art guilds and am a strong advocate for arts in my local community.
