Artist’s Statement: Working in clay brings together many of the things I enjoy in my life. My love of the beach, gardening, animals and the earth’s beauty all seem to be easily expressed in clay. The ripples in the sand and the water at the beach are echoed in my carved pieces. The patterns found in nature, the constant motion of water and the growth of plants at their various stages are always a challenge to capture. Other influences in creating my work come from the Art Nouveau period, as well as Vincent Van Gogh and Dr. Seuss.
I am thankful to have a job that I enjoy and for the opportunity to create every day. The inspiration all around me and the never ending directions in which I can go with clay amaze me.
Medium: I work with a white stoneware clay. I also make my own glazes. I enjoy the feel and workability of this particular clay body.
