Robert Santerre is a “2008 Art in the Round Contest” participant.
Artist’s Statement: People and life seem to be filled with incongruities – our American fascination with guns contrasting our desire for “total safety”; a need to hang onto some “ugly”, but beloved, heirloom that speaks of our life’s story while surrounding ourselves with the latest, greatest gadgetry; our love of nature and our relentless efforts to trash it with our own humanity. The list seems endless.
For me, clay is a very enjoyable, plastic and expressive medium providing a vehicle through which I can bring sharp focus to some of the incongruities in my life. I do what I need to do and hopefully others can enjoy the work as they interpret it in the context of their own life experience.
