Artist’s Statement: These birdhouses (vessels for birds) are a part of the “18 Birdhouse Collection” and are mixed media creations made from wood decorated in original art paper.
I create Gelatin Plate Art Prints. These plates are produced from industrial gelatin and create a surface that has unique characteristics for making simple or complex art prints. Gelatin Plate Art Prints are not reproductions of paintings, but are original art and no two prints are alike. It is one image on a gelatin plate transferred to paper by hand pressure. The beauty of this media is its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting, and drawing mediums. The prints produced can be as simple as a footprint or as beautiful as a watercolor.
Depending on the special effects to be created, a wide range of tools and inks are used. The image can also be worked with brushes, sponges, or sticks, just like Degas and Matisse used to do. Gauguin also painted directly on a plate which substitutes the paper or canvas. The plate is then hand printed.
Gelatin Art Prints are colorful, vibrant with fantastic elements. They are produced by a handful of artists with different stories to tell. Somehting new, something innovative, something beautiful. A new language of art!

Your artwork is exquisite and very unusual. It definitely shows your training at the Germanic Museum really has been put to good use. Congratulations, yelnats
