Artist’s Statement: I like making work that excites the fingers as well as the eyes. I want people’s eyes to sparkle and their fingers to tingle with the need to touch the surface of my work.
I worked in clay with my husband for several decades until switching to glass fusing in 2000. It all started with my desire to cast glass over my sun face tiles to make sun catchers. Cutting circles from rectangles of glass makes a lot of scrap; the material was so expensive, compared to clay, that I came up with my “mosaic” technique as a way to utilize all of the scrap!
Artistic medium: Glass. I love the glowing quality of transparent glass in bright colors. I also love texture, which explains my love of ‘tack fusing’. The top layer of colored pieces are melted to the bottom layer without losing their edges; this technique also adds the element of ’sparkle’ to the glow!
Artistic Resume: (brief) My husband and I set up a studio right out of college and made pottery and tiles for three decades. We did retail festivals and wholesale shows. In 2000, I started working in glass when my husband could no longer work in clay due to his Parkinsons Disease. I wholesale my work, I have a web site, and I have a small gallery in my studio.
